It was revealed earlier this week that BJ Penn and Rory MacDonald had agreed to undergo VADA testing leading up to their fight at UFC 152 in Toronto, Canada. It was originally thought that the testing would not go through since the results could affect the fight card. But since the fight is not going to be a main event fight, Penn and MacDonald agreed to proceed.
Penn also released his UFC 152 blog 1 this week. Penn was his usual self but clued us in on an interesting development. He is currently training in Honolulu but would like to train at AKA next month in preparation for his fight with MacDonald. A key obstacle to Penn getting permission to train at AKA is Jon Fitch. Fitch is an AKA member and fought Penn to a draw at UFC 127 back in February of last year.
Fitch has been wanting to get a rematch with Penn ever since the draw. Truthfully, I can see why Fitch would be against BJ training at his gym, but he needs to get over it. This is BJ Penn. He is an MMA legend and used to train at AKA. Penn has roots there. Fitch needs to get off his high horse and start worrying about getting healthy.
I like how Penn had to remind Fitch that it is his picture with the belt at AKA just to rub it in a bit. I hope BJ does get clearance for the training though. AKA has some of the best wrestlers in the world, Penn will need it if he is to prepare for Rory MacDonald. I think MacDonald is going to be a beast when he faces Penn. Penn will need all the help he can get.
