It seems Rampage Jackson and the UFC are at odds once again. After his loss to Ryan Bader at UFC 144 in Tokyo, Japan, Rampage sent out a series of tweets saying he will be done with the UFC after one more fight left on his contract. Rampage’s disgruntled behavior appears to be stemming from his pay. In one tweet Rampage said the UFC stood for U Fight Cheap. Rampage also went on to say that he is not retiring from fighting just from fighting for the UFC. There were rumors a few years ago that Rampage wanted to dabble in boxing since he believed fighters today just wanted to wrestle and do jiu jitsu. Due to his inability to evolve with MMA, boxing is probably the best way to go for Rampage, but his skills might not be good enough to hang with a pure boxer. There has been no response from the UFC regarding Rampage’s latest tirade.
Update 3/11/2012: Rampage’s stance with the UFC has gotten even more extreme. Rampage took to twitter to say he is hoping the UFC will release him rather than make him finish out his contract. His feelings are stemming from his pay when he said the UFC is making billions but is paying fighters “chump change”. Rampage and the UFC are definitely at odds at this point.
Update 7/9/2012: Rampage Jackson’s last fight in the UFC will be against the highly touted Glover Teixeira at UFC 153 in Rio, Brazil on October 13. It looks like the UFC is throwing Rampage to the wolves by having him fight one of their prospects for name recognition on his own turf. There is no doubt the UFC wants to build a name for Teixeira by having him fight Rampage.
